Summer School with the Theology Department #1

Lutheran High School, Colorado - Hannah & Taylor

We start our Summer School with the Theology Department series off with a discussion of Law and Gospel with teachers Caleb Fischer and Craig Parrott. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the discussion:

"We talk a lot about Law and Gospel in Freshmen Theology. There are really three purposes of the Law: it functions as a curb, a mirror, and a guide. It shows us we can't follow God's law and save ourselves. And it's a guide: it shows us what to do."

"If the law is our constant accuser, the Gospel is meant to comfort us."

"All the parents listening, you know your heart is just to give to your kids. And what's the best thing [God] can give us is wanting to protect us from loving anything more than Him, our Greatest Good."

"A lot of people who don't know God well see Him as an angry judge. But the angry judges in the world are us. The world is full of people who cannot wait to condemn others. But that's just not the heart of God."

"A recent reflection I've had from reading Revelation with sophomores is that God isn't going to waste any of our suffering. He's going to use every ounce of it for our ultimate good. And we know that is true because it's true with His own Son."

We hope you enjoy and are encouraged by this discussion!
